We are interested in interrogating trust in the digital age. We feel that the pervasiveness of technology in our daily life means that people use technology—apps, devices, connected objects, etc.—without understanding how the technology works.
We are focusing on the concept of mirrors as a touchstone for our project—mirrors that both have deep cultural connotations through folklore, myth, and superstition, as well as a private, intimate relationship to our daily lives and how we conceive of ourselves. Integrating technology into mirrors, such as digital screens, allows a virtual double to be considered alongside one’s visual reflection. We want to harness behavioral data in the vulnerable space of one’s own mirror to learn how we can render digital processes more tangible.
